A gestational carrier is a woman who carries a pregnancy for a couple when the female partner (biological mother) cannot carry it herself. For example, this occurs when the female partner had a hysterectomy or has been advised not to carry a pregnancy for medical reasons. Most of the couples will use a friend or a family member as the gestational carrier, although unrelated gestational carriers can also be used.

Once you decide to use a gestational carrier, you will meet with an attorney who specializes in family law to draw up an agreement. The gestational carrier is examined and screened by one of our physicians. We follow the FDA guidelines that also requires screening of the intended father and mother. All parties are also required to undergo a psychological evaluation.
