OUT-OF-STATE or OUT-OF-COUNTRY CARE
If you have a limited amount of time that you can spend in Baltimore or in the United States, we recommend proceeding directly to in vitro fertilization (IVF). You may have other alternatives to IVF, but they usually take longer to complete. In general, you will need to plan on approximately six to eight weeks at our Center to complete an IVF cycle. Consult your gynecologist or contact us to see if IVF is appropriate for your case. To perform your IVF, we will recommend the following:
Start a monophasic birth control pill on your menstrual cycle day 3. Day 1 is the first day of full menstrual flow. Please ask your gynecologist to make sure you have no contraindications to taking the birth control pills. If you have a contraindication, then you need to call us.
We would like to see you and your husband for a consultation approximately 10-15 days after you start the pills. At that time, we will perform a semen analysis, hysterosalpingogram and an endometrial biopsy. If you do not speak English, you will need an interpreter. If you need more time to plan, you can be on the pills for two months.
If you have had a previous hysterosalpingogram (HSG) performed, please bring the films with you as well as any other medical records pertinent to your infertility. The records will need to be in English.
You will be initiating the in vitro fertilization usually within two weeks of your initial visit. Once you start your IVF cycle, it takes approximately three weeks to complete it. A pregnancy test is performed approximately two weeks after completing the IVF cycle. This will give you an idea of the time that you need to spend in the United States.
The cost of an IVF cycle is usually between $11,000 and $14,000 depending on the amount of medications and the need for other procedures like ICSI (egg microsurgical sperm injection). You need to bring $14,000 in US currency for the expenses. You also need to be 43 years of age or younger to do IVF at our Center. You may also be a candidate for our Patient Refund Program.
